Departure for Kairouan - the fourth holiest city for Muslims.

They say that if you don't have the money to visit Mecca, Medina or Jerusalem, you should come to Kairouan (UNESCO) at least 7 times in your life. Here we will see the largest and oldest mosque in Africa - Okba - one of the masterpieces of Islamic architecture.

Besides being a holy city, Kairouan is famous for its hand-woven carpets and date cakes. A Kairouan girl must weave a carpet herself before she can get married.

We will also visit the Aghlabid water feature, where two large pools and several cisterns have survived the centuries after serving decades of scarce drinking water resources.

We continue to Tozeur – the only oasis city

All the desert winds have met here and despite their efforts, they have not yet covered it with sand. In Tozeur there are over 300,000 date palms, from which high-quality dates are produced under the brand name "Deglet Hyp" (Fingers of Light), known all over the world. One of the most beautiful souvenirs in the world is obtained here - the desert rose - crystallized sand in the shape of a flower, a piece of the desert as a souvenir that will capture your heart.

What follows is an unforgettable experience with jeeps in the middle of the desert. The drivers drive at 80-100 km/h. over rough terrain, climbing and descending 30-degree slopes of sand dunes with fine desert sand. They compete with each other and try to make us feel like participants in the Paris-Dakar rally.

We will visit the exceptionally beautiful mountain oasis of Shebika.

A precious jewel in the harsh desert, hidden in the middle and illuminated by the scorching sun, the oasis is also called the “Castle of the Sun”. You will have the opportunity to see how water (cool and drinkable) springs up in the desert, forming a stream with even a small waterfall. A place where scenes from the movie “The English Patient” were filmed.

We continue to Douz, where we will have lunch at a Berber restaurant with a traditional menu of chicken and couscous (drinks not included).

Douz is known as the “Gateway to the Desert”, located in the middle of an oasis of date palms, beyond which thousands of kilometers of deadly, indifferent to man desert follow. Here another adventure begins: riding camels, riding ATVs or flying a hang glider. There are no words to describe the emotion and grandeur of nature, it simply has to be experienced.

We continue to Matmata – the most famous settlement of authentic Tunisians.

"The Berber capital of Tunisia", where we will have the unique opportunity to access the intimate space of the local residents, we will have the unique opportunity to visit some of their underground dwellings.

Matmata became especially popular after part of the Star Wars trilogy was filmed here in the 70s. Since then, the tourist flow has not stopped. Indiana Jones searched for the missing ark in the surrounding caves in these lands. The desert near Matmata is also the romantic backdrop for The English Patient.

We end our day on the shores of the island of Djerba, where we will spend two nights.

Breakfast. During your stay on the island you will have the opportunity to visit the sights of Djerba. This is the largest Mediterranean island in Africa. Its area is 514 km². The surface of the island is flat.

The population is 139,517 people. There are 3 cities: Houmt Souk (with about 65,000 inhabitants), Midoun (50,000) and Ajim (24,000). The island is now inhabited mainly by Arabs and Berbers, and the large Jewish community that existed for many centuries was practically completely resettled in France and Israel in the second half of the 20th century. Today, the island is connected to the mainland by a 7-kilometer road section that was built by the ancient Romans.

We will visit the Berber village of Gelala, famous for its clay pots, from where its name actually comes – potters. Nearby is the Gelala Museum, which has preserved the spirit of local customs, showing the traditional wedding ceremony, etc. Then we will visit one of the oldest synagogues “La Gribha” in the Jewish village of Djerba.

After lunch we will have fun at the famous Djerba Explore Park, known for its farm of 400 crocodiles (if possible, if the park is open). There are a variety of shops and cafes for relaxation and entertainment.

Breakfast. We leave the island of Djerba to continue north. On the way we will stop for lunch (drinks not included) to gain strength for our next stop, El Jem – home to the best-preserved and largest amphitheater in North Africa and the third largest in the world. This is one of the most impressive monuments in world history and it was the setting for the filming of Ridley Scott’s unforgettable “Gladiator”.

We head to Sousse for our last night of our Tunisian adventure.
